How do you go from working as a software developer to owning your own financial services company to founding a heating and air conditioning company? That’s the career path Suzanne Ricketts has taken.
In January, she opened E Heating & Air Conditioning in Dallas with 10 employees. The company installs new systems and repairs existing ones.
For 30 years, she worked for Electronic Data Systems as a software developer.
In 2009, she started her own company called Interface Financial Group, a financial services company that helps businesses get loans.
Through that job, she discovered Avery Air Conditioning was shutting down. When the business closed in December, Ricketts decided to “make a happy story out of it” by hiring that team and starting her own company.
“It’s not like I spent my whole life planning to be an air-conditioning entrepreneur, but it was a great opportunity, and my team is so strong that we’re able to hit the ground running,” she said.
Since then, she’s learned all about coils, condensers and electric pumps. “I’m kind of a handy person myself, and it’s drawn me in,” Ricketts said. “I’ve been out on an install and I’ll go out on more.”
The company donates part of its proceeds to Children’s Medical Center — $100 from every new system and $10 per service. E will also fix Children’s Medical Center’s systems for free. It also offers discounts for veterans, Ricketts said.
